Show up with the best dessert in the parking lot. These awesome tailgate desserts are just as exciting as kickoff.

Tailgates are the epitome of casual affairs between the sportswear attire and hanging out in a parking lot playing outdoor games. The tailgate recipes served have to mirror that casualness, but there are actually a lot of rules behind what makes food casual, especially when it comes to desserts. Anything portable, easy to serve, ideal for eating while mingling and flavored simply enough for all palates makes the best tailgate desserts. In short, we’re not bringing creme brulee.

So, what are some good game-day desserts? We’ve gathered up our favorite dessert recipes that meet all the rules of tailgating. Expect fun, football-shaped foods, cookies, cake pops, puppy chow, s’mores-flavored treats, sweet and salty desserts (thank you, peanut butter and bacon!) and all kinds of brownies, bars and cakes. There are also a few exciting, elevated flavors, like mochi Rice Krispies and Dubai chocolate cheesecake bars, that are still casual enough for a tailgate.

When possible, I like to customize my tailgate desserts with icing, M&Ms or sprinkles in the team’s colors to make the dessert a little more special. The number one rule, though, is to store your dessert properly. Keep everything in airtight containers, consider investing in dessert carriers for easy transportation and store items that must be refrigerated in a cooler with plenty of ice.
